Ratatouille Charity Screening
SOME 180 excited children from seven shelters and orphanages in Klang Valley thronged the lobby of TGV Suria KLCC in conjunction the screening of the French-inspired animation RATATOUILLE.
The children, aged between 5 and 15 years, were the guests of the Miss MalaysiaIndia Care Association and France Cooperation. The Community screening was a collaboration between both the organisations in conjunction with the Merdeka Celebrations.
Miss MalaysiaIndia Care Association president Sharanjit Kaur Dhaliwal said the highly-inspiring movie was a reflection of the “I can or Boleh” spirit. The story revolves around an ambitious rat who aspires to become a chef and is undaunted by the fact that he is a rat-in-a-man’s world.
She said the “I can” spirit was an essential armour for every child and it was especially important during this period of the Merdeka Celebration for society to rekindle and reinforce this spirit among the young.
The 180 children and adults were from seven homes namely; Taman Megah Home For The Disbled, Juara Home, Rita Home, Lovely Home, Gurpuri House, Precious Children Home and Cheshire Home.
The Community Screening of RATATOUILLE is part of the association’s Private Charity Screening series initiated in July with the aim of developing medium-term sustainable community programs targeting women and youths in Malaysia. On 26 July, the association screened Simpsons –The Movie, as a fundraiser.
Charity Screenings Committee advisor and chairman Datin Nirmala Shanta Kumar said the long-term aim is to look specifically into the needs of the girl child.
“We hope this series of screenings will help raise sufficient funds to look into reaching out to more women and youths and to empower them on issues of responsible living, health and education.”
